Advice to policy makers, and also to individuals.
Especially starts are CO2 emission intensive.
Very simple advice to reduce #flights : taking direct rather than indirect flights whenever available. https://t.co/m4aRlfNalP
The rational for doing this was a no-flying, low-carbon resolution for 2020 which many here (@russpoldrack @ryankatzrosene @AmberFirefly @yaxu @mclduk etc.) have also been talking about recently. See also https://t.co/9PdyC9Shzb, https://t.co/ptNhceBFOq
Good article by John Quinton of Lancaster University about the challenges facing academics re travel to conferences etc: https://t.co/JGIEADNQvh
Indeed, time to think about offsetting unavoidable air travel by academics. Universities like to promote their „green“ spirit but are they actually investing sufficient money to reduce their own carbon footprints? https://t.co/t6xd7JnoV3

Travelling for research can mean academics have a high carbon footprint. @LancasterUni @LancsUniLEC's Professor @John_Quinton writes in the first edition of @NatRevEarthEnv about how he has worked to reduce emissions without impacting his work. https://
Carbon emissions associated with academic travels are high. Personal decisions to reduce flying contribute to climate action and need not compromise research (according to John Quinton, Nature Research & Environment). https://t.co/SCINGVswTP
I am personally flying way less in the last months but sometimes it's just impossible to avoid flights, particularly since I live in southern Europe and any train trip to other country beyond the Pyrenees exceed 1000 Kms and certainly my limited budget.

Fully agree with the content of this piece. And I would add more, we could further cut our long-distance air travel by training our collaborators abroad and providing them equipment (when possible), so they can carry out the work. It certainly works and is
